How reimbursement works

Self-file in three steps

Many insurance plans reimburse post-surgical bras, and under the Women's Health and Cancer Rights Act, most group health plans that cover mastectomies must also cover related services, which can include post-operative garments like mastectomy bras. Coverage still varies by plan, so confirm yours first.

  • L8001Unilateral
  • L8002Bilateral
  1. Confirm coverage before you buy

Ask your insurer how many mastectomy bras are covered per year, whether a copay, deductible, or prior authorization applies, which HCPCS codes they cover, and what documentation they need.

  2. Get a prescription

Most insurers require a doctor's prescription stating that mastectomy bras are medically necessary, including the type of bra and number requested.

  3. Submit your itemized receipt

After you order, email support@threestrandsrecoverywear.com for an itemized receipt. Submit it with your prescription and any claim forms your plan requires.

The information provided is for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical or legal advice. Coverage for post-operative garments varies by insurance provider, and reimbursement is not guaranteed. Please consult your insurance provider and healthcare professional for specific guidance related to your coverage and recovery needs.

First-Time Fit

First Time Wearing Your Resilience Bra?

A step-by-step walkthrough to help you feel comfortable and confident from the start.

  1. Step 1

    Lift the compression band

Lift the compression band up before putting the bra on. With the band lifted, the fabric has more stretch, making it easier to fasten and zip up comfortably.

  2. Step 2

    Fasten the hooks, then zip

Fasten the silver hook & eyes at the bottom and middle of the bra first for easy application. Then zip up fully, holding the bottom of the bra down as you zip. Finish by folding the zipper tab down to lock it in place.

  3. Step 3

    Adjust the shoulder straps

Fasten the shoulder straps to your comfort level — this also affects posture support, so find the balance that feels right for you.

  4. Step 4

    Adjust the compression band

Pull the compression band fully forward for maximum compression, partially forward for moderate compression, or remove it completely for no compression — adjust anytime based on how you're feeling.

Size Chart

Find Your Perfect Fit

If you fall between sizes, we suggest sizing up for added comfort.

How to measure
  1. Grab a measuring tape You'll need a soft measuring tape to get an accurate underbust measurement.
  2. Measure under your bust Wrap the tape snugly around your ribcage, directly under your bust, keeping it level all the way around. Record the measurement in inches.

Fit Tips

Between sizes? Size up for the most comfortable fit.

Sizing up several cup sizes? Even if your underbust measurement is true to size, go up a size for more comfortable coverage through the cup.

All colorways share the same size chart. Fabric is 4-way stretch — designed to accommodate swelling during the first weeks post-op.

Insurance & ordering questions

Will insurance pay for it?

The Resilience Bra is insurance eligible (HCPCS L8001 unilateral, L8002 bilateral), and many plans reimburse post-surgical bras. Coverage varies by plan, and reimbursement isn't guaranteed. We don't bill insurance directly; email support@threestrandsrecoverywear.com after you order for an itemized receipt. How to self-file.

Do I need a prescription?

Not to buy. If you plan to submit a claim, most insurers require a doctor’s prescription stating that mastectomy bras are medically necessary, with the type and number of bras.

Can I use my HSA or FSA?

The Resilience Bra may qualify for HSA/FSA reimbursement when purchased for medically necessary post-surgical recovery. Eligibility and documentation requirements vary by plan. Please confirm with your plan administrator before purchasing.

Does Medicare cover mastectomy bras?

Medicare classifies mastectomy bras as durable medical equipment when they are medically necessary, generally up to 4 per year with a prescription, purchased from a Medicare-enrolled supplier. Check with Medicare about your situation before you order.

Why buy the bundle?

Two bras for $150 instead of $200, with free shipping, so one is always ready while the other is in the wash. Bundle pricing isn’t eligible for additional discount codes.

What size should I order after surgery?

Measure your underbust (ribcage, directly under your bust) and use the size chart above. If you are between sizes, size up. If you expect to go up several cup sizes, size up for more comfortable coverage. The fabric is 4-way stretch to accommodate swelling.

Can I keep wearing it after I heal?

Absolutely. The drain pockets are removable, which turns the Resilience Bra into an everyday sports bra. Many customers keep wearing it months or even years after recovery.
